Phathiswa shares her story of hope

My name is Phathiswa. I am a parent of 3 children and I live in Monwabisi Park A-Section. I joined Sikhula Sonke’s 1st 1000 days - Imbiza Family Community Motivator - at the beginning of 2024 when my youngest child was almost 2 years. At the time, I was separated from my husband. I was unemployed, living with my three children, and we all depended on the Child Support Grant. I constantly participated in Sikhula Sonke’s programs, and that made me realize the passion I had with children. Then, I asked to volunteer at Sikhula Sonke on a daily basis, and they gave me that opportunity. 

It was such a privilege for me to look after young ones in playgroup instead of staying at home doing nothing. I attended the cluster workshops that empowered me to deal with all sorts of trauma. Sikhula Sonke encouraged me to improve my Grade 12 subjects, which were not that great and the team gave me all the support for improving my subjects. I cannot forget this organization which helped my family in my darkest days, they stood by me and provided food parcels, clothing etc.

It was the same Sikhula Sonke Social Worker that recommended me for a job at CTM. I doubted myself as a good candidate but they recommended me as the right candidate for that post, because they knew my commitment and dedication  at work. At 39 I never imagined myself working for a big company like CTM. 

​Meeting Sikhula Sonke had a great impact on my personal development. I send my gratitude to Sikhula Sonke for playing a vital role in appointing me for this job. Sikhula Sonke  has strengthened for the best, my life has changed completely for the best. My house is warm, and I’m a better parent, and now my husband is back. I am now happily working permanently at CTM because of you.
