Every year South Africans set aside 67 minutes on the 18th of July to remember Nelson Mandela, and share acts of kindness. This year Sikhula Sonke was privileged to introduce a new Early Childhood Development (ECD) bus to the residents of Monwabisi Park. VPUU and Design Indaba have kitted out a bus with all the learning resources a young child could hope for, and Sikhula Sonke's team were there to facilitate learning interactions on this bright and colourful vehicle. On behalf of the practitioners and children of Khayelitsha, our heartfelt thanks to Design Indaba and VPUU for this valuable resource!

National Child Protection Week (CPW) is commemorated in South Africa annually to raise awareness of the rights of children as articulated in the Children's Act of 2005. The campaign, which began in 1997, also aims to mobilise all sectors of society to ensure the care and protection of children. The campaign is led by the Minister of Social Development; however it is incumbent on all of us to play a role in protecting children and creating a safe and secure environment for them. The 2014 theme for the week was “a safe and healthy environment for children”.
