The SAPS-Harare Cluster did not waste any time in joining the public ECD event in Harare Square in front of our offices to celebrate Mandela Day. We set up imaginary/fantasy play, face-painting and other activities that were prepared for children in celebration of Dr Nelson Mandela's Centenary Celebrations. Radio Khaltsha conducted interviews in all the different sites Sikhula Sonke set up activities, including Khayelitsha District Hospital, Michael Mapongwana Day Hospital and Azania square, where a new playgroup site has been erected by Sikhula Sonke Fieldworkers and associates. Thembi did an early morning workshop with pregnant mothers at Michael Mapongwana Day Hospital. What is Mandela Day without gifts? Children were showered with gifts, party packs and beanies. Thank you to all who made this day a success. Thanks to our funders for making this event a success and reaching out to children who don't have resources to otherwise access basic early learning and development. Many thanks to PEP Stores, Michael Mapongwana Day Hospital and JAM South Africa for helping make this day special for our children.

We are inspired by these words:
"You can choose to look the other way, to hope that victims will come right without lending a helping hand, without your sacrifice. You can choose to be an armchair critic who sees everything wrong with the efforts of those trying to help; a critic who finds others falling short, yet doesn't get involved themselves. I choose to get my hands dirty, and to help in any way possible to lift the heavy burden of poverty and inequality from the shoulders of the poor and vulnerable." Thank you Sello Hatang (CE, Nelson Mandela Foundation). We agree and this is what Sikhula Sonke does. |
