Rondebosch Boys' High School students showed their heart for children challenged by food insecurity when they commemorated World Food Day by preparing nutritious sandwiches for the Emthonjeni and FCM children of Khayelitsha.
The sad reality is that over a quarter of the world's population lives in households which regularly experience hunger. The stats are even higher in Khayelitsha where over 45% of the population is unemployed. One in three people has to walk 200 metres or further to access water and 89% of households are moderately or severely food-insecure.
Sikhula Sonke is reaching out to Khayelitsha's 40,000 preschool age children - but, it is a fact, hungry children can't learn.
From all at Sikhula Sonke, and the kids of Monwabisi Park and Site C... many thanks and a big thumbs up to the students and parents of Rondebosch Boys High School.
